Hook: Regular dry fly hook, sizes 16 to 12.
Thread: Brown 8/0 (70 denier).
Body: Antron dubbing.
Hackle: Dry fly hackle wrapped over the body.
Wing: Elk or fine deer hair.

We might not tie the Woolly Bugger in this beginner’s fly tying class, but sure are going to make the Elk-Hair Caddis. This is probably the most popular adult caddisfly imitation. Change colors of materials to match all the caddisflies living on your favorite waters. Al Troth, the designer of the Elk-Hair Caddis, debuted this pattern in the pages of this magazine in the 1970s.
