15 Trout Flies You Must Tie

Hook: Regular dry fly hook, sizes 14 to 10.
Thread: Tan 8/0 (70 denier).
Wing: Wood-duck feather.
Tail: Brown hackle fibers.
Body: Fawn-colored rabbit-fur dubbing.
Hackle: Brown and grizzly hackles.

The March Brown is another classic pattern you will want to tie. Once you learn to make this fly, simply change hook sizes and colors of materials to create imitations of most of the mayfly duns inhabiting your local trout stream. My good friend Mike Valla, a serious student of the Catskill Mountains and the history of fly fishing, tied this example of that important fly.
