Fishy's Foam Frog

Fishy's Foam Frog

Hook: Use a bass-bug hook with a shank that is slightly shorter than the body of the frog. The author uses a size 4 bassbug hook to make a frog with a regular size body; he prefers size 2 to make a frog with a jumbo body.
Thread: Wrap the hook shank with any size 6/0 (140 denier) thread. Use size 3/0 (280 denier) Flat-Waxed Thread to shape the body and define the head.
Body: Bill Skilton’s light green, tan, or yellow foam frog blanks. The blanks come in two sizes: regular and jumbo. If you can’t find the bodies at your local fly shop, contact Bill at USA FLIES, P.O. Box 64, Boiling Springs, PA 17007, or give him a call at (717) 258-0642. You can also cut your own bodies from foam blocks or thick sheets of dense foam found at the craft store. The size of the regular body is 1/2- by-3/16-by-11/4 inches; the jumbo body is 1/2-by-1/4-by-11/2 inches.
Eyes: Tan, 5-millimeter pom-poms. Small doll eyes or painted eyes also work.
Legs: Tan or green Spanflex rubber-leg material. Thin rubber bands are a great substitute.
