Trina’s CDC Budding Emerger

Hook: Dai-Riki 125 emerger hook, sizes 20 to 14.
Thread: Cream 8/0 (70 denier).
Shuck: Amber Antron.
Abdomen: Cream dry-fly dubbing.
Thorax: Cream dubbing.
Wings: Light dun Henry’s Fork Hackle wrapped parachute style around monofilament or Antron and pulled over the thorax.

Tying note: This pattern is a CDC variation of Ned Long’s Pull-Over flies and Bob Quigley’s Hackle Stackers. On those flies, the tiers place all of the hackle fibers on top of the hooks and leave the bellies smooth, just like on the naturals. Ian Moutter, an English tier, simultaneously came up with the same method, which he calls a Paraloop. He wrote about his flies in great detail in Tying Flies the Paraloop Way (Countryman Press). Ian’s flies were also featured in an article in the Spring 2003 issue of Fly Tyer magazine.
