What does the Fly Tyer app cost?
The app is a FREE download. Search for “Fly Tyer” in the iPad store and "Fly Tyer Magazine" in Google Play.

What does the app do?
Fly Tyer allows you to purchase a digital subscription to the exact same content as the print version.

What’s different about the new Fly Tyer app?
Fly Tyer is now using Adobe Digital Publishing Suite to produce a replica version of its monthly print edition. Adobe DPS is a state-of-the-art digital publishing tool that will enable us to build on the replica product. In the future, we hope to include additional interactive elements to the magazine to enhance your Fly Tyer reading experience.

Why did Fly Tyer recently change versions?
Fly Tyer’s parent company, Morris Communications, is moving its tablet products to one service provider. We’ve experienced greater stability and reliability with Adobe and believe that, in the long run, the new technology will produce a better customer experience.

What happened to certain features of the app?
There are several features of the previous app that are not available in the Adobe version, including:

  • Text-only view
  • Hyperlinked URLS
  • Pop-up Internet browser
  • Linked table of contents

What’s new in the Adobe App?
Right now, the app is a straightforward replica, but the new application allows us to build on that framework. For instance, if you have not seen the tablet app for our sister publication, American Angler magazine, be sure to check it out to see what is possible. In the Apple version we have enabled social sharing of articles and soon will enable access to the Fly Tyer forums directly within the app.

How do I activate my existing digital subscription on the new app?
Please follow these steps to activate your access to the revised library of issues.

  1. Install or update the app from iTunes.
  2. With the app downloaded and opened, tap “Sign In” in the upper left-hand corner.
  3. Tap “Create an Account.”
  4. Tap “Existing Digital Subscribers.”
  5. Enter your email address and set a password.
  6. Tap “Submit.”
  7. Tap “Done” upper left-hand corner.
  8. Download the issues to which you are entitled, as indicated by the download icon in the top nav bar.

How do I update my app version?
Staying up to date on the latest version of our app ensures optimal performance. In the past, some customers have experienced download problems that were resolved simply by updating the app. To determine if you need an update:

  1. Open the "App Store" icon on your iPad.
  2. Open "Updates" in the bottom right corner of the home screen.
  3. Find "Fly Tyer" in the list of apps, tap “Update” and enter your Apple ID.

Can I buy single issues?
Yes. But only in the iTunes store and Google Play, and only for those issues that have been entered into the digital archive. Currently, the Fly Tyer digital archive goes back to Spring 2008. Each time we print a new issue, it goes into the archive with a single-copy and subscription option.

How do I purchase an iPad subscription?
You can purchase a subscription either in iTunes or from www.FlyTyer.com. There are certain advantages to either:

  • Purchase from our Website (upper right corner)
    It is cheaper to purchase a one-year subscription to Fly Tyer from our website ($11.95) . There is also better customer support with a subscription purchased through our website. However, there are no single-copy sales available through the publisher.
  • Purchase from iTunes
    You can only purchase a one-year subscription in iTunes. But it does offer the convenience of using your iTunes account, and there are also single copies available. However, due to revenue sharing with Apple, it is more expensive to purchase a one-year subscription through iTunes.

What’s the best deal?
A one-year subscription from FlyTyer.com is $11.95. It is $19.99 in iTunes.

How do I know when a new issue arrives?
When you subscribe, be sure to opt in to “receive push notifications” that will alert you to new issues.

What are the log-in credentials?
When you subscribe through www.FlyTyer.com, you will be asked to enter your email address and set a password. SAVE THAT DATA as this will be your log-in credentials that unlock access to the issues.

Using the Restore Function
The Restore function is an Apple feature that restores your purchases. If you fail to register and don’t have log-in credentials, the Restore function will search your Apple ID and authenticate any purchases made through that ID. The Restore button will display whenever you are prompted to log-in.

Can I view Fly Tyer on non-Apple devices?
Yes, if you purchase a tablet subscription through our website, but not if you purchase through iTunes. If you purchase in iTunes, you will only have access with Apple devices, such as iPad.

Will the subscription work with iPhone and my desktop?
Curently, no. We plan to introduce both options in the near future.

What’s the best way to view each issue?
You are far better off downloading an issue directly to your tablet. Online viewing is much slower. Either way, you want to download or view while connected to a wireless signal, which is faster than 3G or 4G.

How do I bookmark articles or "Add Favorites"?
You can add favorite articles to an archive by tapping the upper right hand corner of any article. Tag the story with any additional information in the pop-up window, and then find them all in the My Favorites section of the Menu button at the bottom of any page.

How do I close and restart the app?
Closing and restarting the app will sometimes solve problems you may be encountering. To close, double click on the home button. All open apps will appear at the bottom of the screen. Hold your finger on any one of them until they all begin to wobble, indicating that they are now active. Tap the minus sign (-) on the app icon, and that app will close. Click the home button again to deactivate all open issues. Reopen your app by tapping it on the home screen.

Can I get digital access with my print subscription?
We do not offer free digital with print. However, we do offer a print-plus-digital package ($24.95), and if you want to sample that combination, you can add digital to the remainder of your print subscription for only $1. Please visit our order page for the offer.

Can I switch my print subscription to digital?
There currently is not a way to switch and have remaining print copies served digitally. However, you can cancel your print subscription and receive a refund for unmailed copies, and then start a new subscription digitally.
