Pink Bonefish Bitters Hook: Tiemco 800S or Dai-Riki 950, sizes 10 and 8. Thread: Tan 6/0 (140 denier). Head: Pink bead chain and epoxy or hot glue. Legs: Pink rubber or Sili Legs. Wing: Natural deer hair over pink Z-Lon. Note: Pop’s Bonefish Bitters was created for fishing Turneffe Island in Belize, but it has become popular on saltwater flats around the world. It was named after the legendary Turneffe Flats Lodge bonefish guide everyone calls “Pops.” The Bitters suggests a small crab or perhaps a small sea urchin. Popular colors are amber, chartreuse, olive, orange, and a specific tan and blue that imitates a hermit crab. The epoxy or hot-glue head gives the fly heft and its profile. This was one of the first bonefish flies tied on small hooks. |
