Olive Iris Caddis Hook: Tiemco 100, size to match the natural insect. Thread: Gray 8/0 (70 denier). Shuck: Amber Z-Lon. Body: Olive or caddis green dubbing. Wing: A loop of white Z-Lon. Head: Hare’s mask dubbing. Note: The Iris Caddis is an effective emerging caddis pupa. The looped Z-Lon wing imitates a caddis pupa with its wing stuck in the surface film. The shuck and body of Sparkle Dubbing add to the illusion. The gleaming fly is also visible to the angler. The Iris Caddis is usually fished as a dry fly, but it is also effective when fished wet as a dropper above a bead-head caddis pupa. The fly was named after the Iris brand of dubbing originally used for tying the body. |
