Paraleptophlebia Nymph
Hook: Your favorite brand of regular nymph hooks, sizes 16 to 12.
Thread: Brown Danville’s Spiderweb size 17/0 (30 denier), or any ultrafine
brown thread.
Weight: Adhesive-backed lead foil.
Tails: Long, tapering brown guard hairs. The author uses European
badger, but groundhog, nutria, and muskrat are good substitutes.
Abdomen: Dark brown Flexibody. You may substitute with Scud Back,
Thin Skin, or a similar product.
Gills: Fine, brown gel-spun thread. You may also use white gel-spun
thread colored with a brown permanent marker.
Thorax: Fine, dark brown synthetic dubbing.
Wing pads: Black feather quill slips: crow, turkey, or dyed pheasant.
Legs: Brown speckled (not barred) partridge back hackle.
Head: Fine, dark brown synthetic dubbing.
Antennae: The same type of guard hairs used to make the tails, only
much finer. |
