Deer-Hair Popper

Hook: Mustad 3407 or equivalent, sizes 4 to 1/0.
Thread: Black Kevlar.
Tail: Two or three pairs of grizzly neck hackles with five
or six strands of gold or copper Flashabou Accent.
Body: Deer hair, spun and clipped to shape.
Weed guard (optional): Double prong, 15-pound-test
hard monofilament.
Note: Use the Deer-Hair Popper for both blind-casting
and sight-fishing to big winter seatrout. Of course,
you can do both of these things at the same time;
cast the bug to where you can’t see fish, and keep
your eye peeled on the flats for large trout. Coat the
fly with a good floatant to help keep it on the surface.
