Hook: Daiichi 2220, sizes 4 to 1.
Thread: 6/0 (140 denier), light gray.
Tail: White or light gray marabou.
Body: White or light gray marabou feather wrapped on the hook.
Hackle: White or light gray schlappen feather. Before wrapping the
feather, tie several strands of Mirror Flash facing forward. Pull
back and tie down strands of Mirror Flash with each wrap
of hackle.
Collar: Mallard flank feather.
Head: White or gray ram’s wool tied in a clump and trimmed.
Note: A dark colored version of this pattern with bright-colored
Estaz or egg yarn as the head is very effective. This pattern
creates a large silhouette in the water, but the fly compresses
well when cast with minimal air resistance.
