Rhyacophilia Larva
Hook: Curved-shank caddis or swimming nymph hooks, sizes 12 to 6.
Thread: Kevlar or your favorite brand of extra-strong thread in a color to
match the head of the natural insect.
Weight: Lead wire or adhesive-back lead foil. Build up the weight slightly
thicker in the center of the hook to create a slightly thicker underbody.
Abdomen: Any fine, long-fibered synthetic dubbing, color to match the
natural insect.
Thorax: Any fine, long-fibered synthetic dubbing, color to match the natural
insect.
Under-rib: Green, olive, or yellow gel spun or your favorite brand of strong,
fine thread.
Over-rib: Very narrow flat plastic ribbing material, pale green.
Legs: Fibers stripped from a golden pheasant center tail feather. Tint the
fibers with a yellow permanent marker before tying the legs to the fly. |
