Sparkle Furry Dragon
Hook: Heavy-wire, 1X-long nymph hook, sizes 10 to 6.
Thread: Olive 8/0 (70 denier), 6/0 (140 denier), or 3/0 (210 denier).
Abdomen: Three or four bunches of dark-olive rabbit fur clipped from a
Zonker strip and tied on the rear two-thirds of the hook shank. Tie a
small tuft of black rabbit fur on top of each bunch of gray fur. Add a little
fine green Mylar (Angel Hair or Lite Brite) on top of each tuft of body
except the last one. Pull the fur of the completed abdomen straight up,
and trim the Mylar even with the tips of the fur.
Hackle: Barred green or olive, or solid green or brown, hen hackle. Trim
the fibers from the top and bottom of the fly.
Eyes: Black Vernille. The author likes to place a little epoxy on each end of the
Vernille to create eyes. You may substitute black plastic dumbbell eyes.
Thorax: Arizona Sparkle Nymph Dubbing in the color called Skip’s Dark
Green. You may substitute another brand of shiny dark green or olive
dubbing. Tie dark olive rabbit fur around the eyes to form a head. |
